I sort of agree with the spannerman, the last page is pretty much all off topic, and supposed to be directed to new members! so can we now rap this up or talk about forum rules which is what this forum is on!
Maybe one rule could be CUTTING DOWN of off topic topics hmmmm

Rag, i know this is out of character, but its Quite frankly pissing me off! i have displayed my disapproval of your off topic knowledge, you seem to know alot. This isn't very often related to spud guns...it just seems to me (and a few others) that you are just trying to 'big yourself up'
To put it in simple terms, these last few days are the straw that broke the camels back...
I am leaving it hear. Nothing more will be said from my part, i just hope you take on board what ive said

Talking about rules, I lost my best steel rule a month or two back. It was a full 60cm one and had 1/2mm markings and everything. They're damn rare like that, and they don't come cheap.
I have a nasty feeling I left it at my old school.

The Mythbusters experiments are still a bit questionable. There should be some grading to their experiments not: "Hmm, the original parameters don't fit. Lets use 20 times more of an explosive that's three times more powerful, then try that... oh, it exploded."
Good TV, but not a great experimental method.

I'm sure you are aware of this, but I feel the need as a huge mythbusters fan to point it out. They try to recreate the myth as best they can, and if they bust it, they see what it takes to actually get the results the myth was supposed to. They employ a lot of science in what they do, and they have a HUGE budget to do it with unlike us, so they can do things big and properly. Brilliant show, and very educational a lot of the time.

@Havingadump: In a belated reply - yes, I am aware. However, they usually crank things up by such a degree that regardless of what the myth was, they just end up blowing it up.
Sure it's good TV... but it's not good science.

I think that sums up what you were saying. Still an awesome show though.
Certainly an entertaining show, I'll give it, but not a particularly scientific one. There's a lot of times where they forget science that is fairly basic stuff - either totally themselves, or just fail to tell it to the audience.
Their cannons leave something to be desired in the design. If you want a mahoosive explosion however - they do those very well.

A good, but large book is "Drawing on the right side of the brain" by Betty Edwards. There is now a newer edition than the one I used as well, originally titled "The new drawing on the right side of the brain". Probably worth trying, but if you can find it there, you might want to borrow it from your local library or something first to assess it for your needs.
I bought that book a few months back, i plan to work through it in summer. It seems pretty good to me!
